1. History and development ages
The predecessor of the Faculty of Applied Languages ​​was Department of Academic Foundations which was established in 2008 after 6 years of the birth of VNU International School (on July 24, 2002) under Decision 603/QD-KQT of Rector of VNU International School. Faculty of Applied Languages was officially named this according to Decision No. 68/QD-DHQGHN dated January 10, 2022 of the Director of VNU on promulgating regulations and organizing activities of VNU International School. Previously, on December 1, 2021, President of VNU issued Decision No. 3668/QD-VNU on the establishment of VNU International School directly under VNU on the basis of upgrading the International School.

From its establishment until 2021, Faculty of Applied Linguistics is an important backbone of VNU International School, the faculty carries out the mission of training English ​​for students to be qualified with B2 certificate before studying undergraduate programs lectured in English; the faculty also provides 1&2 English Academic Purposes and 1&2 English Specific Purposes for university students.

Since May 2021, Faculty of Applied Linguistics has been assigned the task of training English Language Major (Specialized in Business – IT) by VNU president, allowing the faculty to offer bachelor’s degrees in English. This is an important premise and milestone in the faculty’s mission so that Department of Academic Foundations can be upgraded to the Faculty of Applied Linguistics according to VNU Decision No. 3668/QD – VNU.

Accordingly, from January 10, 2022, the Faculty of Applied Linguistics ​​has the task of the training program for the Bachelor of English Language; Bachelor’s degree programs in English, College Preparatory Training (basic English), 1&2 Academic English and 1&2 Specialized English for undergraduate students. In addition, Faculty of Applied Linguistics ​​also carry out research in applied linguistics, i.e., improving teaching and learning methods, testing and assessment methods, studying foreign language education policy, and interdisciplinary research, and foreign languages ​​- education – culture – specialized specialties. The Faculty also cooperates with foreign language training units, enterprises  to develop training, scientific research, service provision and technology transfer, and creating job opportunities for students.
