Promoting research on Sustainability, ESG, and Innovation in Vietnam

On June 4, 2026, the Faculty of Economics and Management, VNU – International School, successfully organized a scientific seminar. The event attracted the participation of numerous lecturers, researchers, and academic staff within the Faculty.

The seminar served as a meaningful academic forum for scholars to share research findings, discuss emerging socio-economic issues, and update the latest research trends that support teaching, learning, and scientific research activities. The program featured three presentations focusing on sustainable development, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices, and innovation in the context of global economic integration.

The first presentation, delivered by PhD Candidate Dam Quang Trung, examined the impact of CO₂ emissions on Vietnam’s economy and proposed policy implications for green growth. Using an input–output analytical framework combined with national greenhouse gas emission data, the study explored the relationship between production activities, final demand, and CO₂ emissions across economic sectors. The findings highlighted that several export-oriented industries contribute significantly to economic growth while simultaneously generating substantial environmental pressure. The study also emphasized the important role of forestry in carbon absorption and proposed policy recommendations related to technological modernization, green energy transition, carbon market development, and investment in carbon-sequestering sectors.

The second presentation by MSc. Nguyen Thi Minh Huyen focused on the impact of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) perceptions on consumers’ intention to use electric ride-hailing services in Vietnam. Drawing on Signaling Theory and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the research demonstrated that ESG perceptions positively influence brand image and perceived value, which subsequently shape consumers’ attitudes and behavioral intentions. The findings provide valuable insights for businesses and policymakers seeking to promote sustainable transportation and environmentally responsible consumer behavior.

The final presentation, delivered by Dr. Le Huong Linh, explored the application of the Triple Helix model in upgrading Vietnam’s textile and garment industry. The study analyzed the challenges facing the industry, including dependence on imported materials, limited R&D capacity, and human resource constraints. Based on international experiences and industry analysis, the research proposed strengthening collaboration among government agencies, universities and research institutions, and businesses to foster innovation, technology transfer, and workforce development. Such cooperation is expected to facilitate the transition from traditional manufacturing models toward higher value-added activities, thereby enhancing Vietnam’s position in global value chains.

The seminar concluded with lively discussions among participants, reflecting strong academic engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration. The research topics presented not only contributed to academic knowledge but also offered practical implications for policymaking, innovation, and sustainable development in Vietnam. Through this activity, the Faculty of Economics and Management continues to affirm its commitment to academic excellence, research advancement, and knowledge exchange in addressing contemporary economic and social challenges.
