On September 15, 2026, International School, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-IS), held a solemn ceremony to announce the decision of the President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) to transfer and appoint Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan as Rector of VNU-International School for a five-year term effective September 15, 2026.

The ceremony was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong, Vice President of VNU, together with leaders of VNU’s functional departments, invited guests, the School’s Board of Rectors, and representatives of leadership from various units.

In his address, Vice President Dao Thanh Truong congratulated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan on being entrusted with this new responsibility and conveyed high expectations to the newly appointed Rector and the School’s faculty and staff. Looking ahead, he emphasized three key tasks for the School. First, to stabilize the organization, strengthen unity, and align on a shared development direction, fostering broad consensus, encouraging staff creativity, and placing collective interests first. Second, to make training quality and academic excellence the foundation of all development efforts, building a research ecosystem and academic environment capable of attracting and retaining high-caliber scientists. Finally, to fully prepare the conditions for VNU-International School to develop into a member university of VNU, in particular by completing the School’s strategic development scheme with a feasible roadmap that clearly defines its mission and distinct identity in order to drive substantial qualitative transformation.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong expressed his wish for the new Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of VNU-International School to remain “healthy, steadfast, and resilient,” to quickly grasp practical realities, and to resolve existing “bottlenecks” in order to bring about substantive change. The VNU Vice President also called on all staff, lecturers, and employees to uphold a spirit of solidarity and responsibility and to work together to fulfill the School’s strategic goals.

In his new role, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan expressed his sincere and profound gratitude to the VNU Standing Board and Board of Presidents for their continued trust and confidence in entrusting him with the responsibility of leading VNU-International School. The new Rector also expressed appreciation to previous generations of leadership and to all faculty and staff of VNU-International School across different periods, whose dedication and effort built the solid foundation the School stands on today.
Rector Nguyen Anh Tuan pledged to build comprehensive solidarity, consensus, and unity throughout the School in order to effectively carry out its assigned tasks. In this new phase, VNU-International School will regard quality as its core value and the foundation for sustainable development; remain steadfast in its goal of standardizing and internationalizing its training programs; step up quality accreditation in accordance with international standards; and strengthen the link between training, scientific research, and technology transfer. The School will prioritize developing an elite workforce of scientists and international education experts in order to create the best learning environment and the most international environment within VNU. In particular, the School will focus all its resources on developing VNU-International School into a member university of VNU.
The ceremony announcing the appointment of the VNU-IS Rector marks an important milestone in the School’s development. The School’s entire faculty, staff, and students believe and expect that, under the leadership of the new Rector, Nguyen Anh Tuan, VNU-International School will continue to advance steadily and soon realize its goal of becoming a higher education institution whose mission is to attract international faculty and students to VNU.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan was born in 1977. He specializes in Finance and Banking, was recognized as meeting the standards for the title of Associate Professor in 2017, and was formally appointed to the title on May 7, 2018.
Prior to his appointment as Rector of VNU International School, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan held a long career within the VNU system and other higher education institutions. He previously served as Head of the Academic Affairs Office at the VNU University of Economics and Business, before becoming Vice Rector of the Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports (from November 2018). Since 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan has served as Head of the Department of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, VNU — one of VNU’s key functional departments.
