As part of the Vietnam Higher Education Development Project – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) sub-project, the World Bank (WB) task force carried out their fourth project support mission at VNU from November 27 to 29, 2023. On November 29, the WB task force, along with the PHER Project Director and the WB Project Management Team, had a working session at VNU-International School. Attending the meeting, representing the school, were Vice Rector Nguyen Quang Thuan and heads of various units. Representing the WB task force were Mr. Michael Drabble – Project Manager, Dr. Richard Hopper – Director of the USAID PHER Project, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan – Director of the WB Project Management Team, and Mr. Vu Manh Cuong – Deputy Director of the Team.
Vice Rector Nguyen Quang Thuan had a meeting and worked with the task force of the World Bank (WB) and representatives of the PHER Project.
Two parties exchanged views and agreed that the WB and the USAID PHER Project will support VNU- International School in international quality accreditation of training programs; research activities, international publications, technology transfer, and support the implementation of blended learning.
The World Bank Group, commonly referred to as the World Bank, abbreviated as WB, is a multilateral financial institution primarily focused on promoting economic and social development in developing countries by improving their labor productivity. Founded in 1946, the World Bank maintains a close relationship with the International Monetary Fund, and members of the World Bank are also members of the International Monetary Fund. Currently, the World Bank has over 40 offices located in various countries.

The PHER Project (full name: Partnership for Higher Education Reform) is part of the USAID’s program to support the development of higher education. It is a five-year initiative, spanning from 2022 to 2026, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of three key Vietnamese higher education institutions for sustainable and autonomous development in the areas of governance, training, research, and industry connections. This initiative is intended to meet the workforce needs for the industrialization, modernization, and international integration of Vietnam. The project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the form of non-refundable technical assistance and is executed by Indiana University, USA.
It is hoped that in the coming time, VNU- International School will receive active support from the World Bank and the PHER Project in its training activities, research, technology transfer, as well as projects aimed at enhancing the capacities of its staff, faculty, trainees, and students.
