International School’s faculty appointed as a teaching assistant at George Washington University


After nearly a year of pursuing master program in George Washington, United Stated, Ms.Vu Ngoc Suong Mai – a member of Center for Biomedicine and Community Health – CBCH, a former faculty member of applied sciences department of Vietnam National University (VNU), has been successfully selected for a position as teaching assistant in this university. George Washington University is a prestigiously renowned institution globally with the rank among 201-250, according to The Time Higher Education.

Ms.Vu Ngoc Suong Mai – a member of Center for Biomedicine and Community Health – CBCH, has been successfully selected for a position as teaching assistant.

Being one of the core members of Center for Biomedicine and Community Health, Suong Mai has contributed significantly for the growth and development of Center since the early days. She was also a member of an interdisciplinary research group in Biomedicine and Community Health, led by Dr. Chu Dinh Toi. During the time working with the research group, she has actively participated in a number of research projects, international collaboration activities, and co-authored 6 articles and books which have been published in the reputable journals indexed in Wos/Scopus.

Thanks to these achievements, Ms. Suong Mai has been successfully admitted to the Master program in Bioinformatics and Molecular Biochemistry department of George Washington University. In addition, she also got offered as teaching assistant in the subjects of Medical Biochemistry and Medical Biochemistry Lab. This role helped her with the opportunity to regularly interact with professors, enhance knowledge and expertise in the field as well as soft skills, practically English proficiency. Besides, this work also provided her a stable income and support for international students like her with living expenses. Being a teaching assistant also helps establish good relationships with professors and offers opportunities for future career development.


The interdisciplinary research group in Biomedicine and Community Health serves as a launching pad for Suong Mai’s achievement of pursuing a master’s degree and becoming a professorial assistant in the United States.


Regular scientific seminars organized by the research group create opportunities for students to develop both their academic knowledge and soft skills.

The interdisciplinary research group on Biomedicine and Health is one of two prominent groups of VNU of International School. After nearly three years of continuous efforts and development, the research group has expanded and consist of more than 60 members as well as collaborators, including professors, associate professors, leading experts in the field of biomedicine and health, together with research fellows and students from various educational institutions. Among them, more than 30 outstanding students are from International School.
