On January 15, 2026, the Faculty of Economics & Management, VNU–International School, organized an academic seminar entitled “Unlocking Qualitative Research – From Academic Foundations to International Publication Standards.”
As a kick-off scholarly activity for 2026, the seminar attracted strong participation from lecturers and doctoral students, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing research capacity and aligning with global academic standards.
The seminar was honored to welcome Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Binh, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Accounting & Finance Journal, Associate Editor of the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal (AAAJ) and Accounting Research Journal, and a member of the Editorial Boards of The British Accounting Review, Accounting History, and Meditari Accountancy Research. Drawing on his extensive international editorial experience, the speaker provided valuable insights into qualitative research practices and publication expectations in leading international journals.

In the theoretical session, participants were introduced to key epistemological perspectives underlying qualitative research and how these perspectives shape research design and data interpretation. Major qualitative approaches such as case study, phenomenology, and grounded theory were systematically discussed, together with their appropriate applications, strengths, and methodological requirements.

The practical session offered hands-on experience, allowing participants to work directly with simulated qualitative data and practice coding, categorizing, and abstracting themes following established qualitative research procedures. This session helped bridge theory and practice, enabling participants to better understand how qualitative data are transformed into meaningful research findings.
