In October, students of the Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management program at the VNU School of Interdisciplinary Studies (VNU-IS) had the opportunity to engage and learn from an international guest speaker in a gues talk on “Omotenashi Mindset – The Japanese Way of Hospitality.”

The guest speaker, Mr. Daisuke Kawasaki, CEO of ASEAN Car Business Career (ACC), shared profound insights into the concept of Omotenashi—widely regarded as the spirit and soul of Japan’s service industry. With over 20 years of professional experience across various Asian countries, Mr. Kawasaki helped students gain a deeper understanding of this philosophy of wholehearted service—one that emphasizes sincerity, meticulous attention to detail, and proactive care for customers without expecting anything in return. Through his talk, students were able to appreciate Omotenashi not only as a professional practice but also as a human-centered philosophy of life.

In a dynamic and interactive atmosphere, students engaged directly with the speaker through lively discussions and questions, gaining practical insights from the Japanese working environment. Beyond technical and professional knowledge, they also discovered the humanistic values embedded in the Omotenashi spirit—where “service quality” begins with “quality of people.”
The session was part of a series of experiential learning activities under the Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management program, reflecting VNU-IS’s educational philosophy “Learning from Experience – Learning with Heart.” It also embodies the school’s vision of nurturing a generation of students with “Vietnamese hearts and global minds,” encouraging learners to broaden their international perspectives, embrace the essence of Japanese hospitality culture, and connect it with Vietnam’s own tradition of warmth and attentiveness.
Academic exchanges with international experts, such as the guest talk on “Omotenashi Mindset – The Japanese Way of Hospitality,” highlight VNU-IS’s ongoing commitment to internationalization, innovation in teaching methods, and its role as a hub for global connection—fostering modern management thinking in Vietnam in line with global best practices.
