The Bachelor of English language program at VNU International school does not focus solely on language acquisition but rather on specialized fields similar to other English language programs (such as those at Hanoi University of Foreign Trade, University of Commerce, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Vietnam Maritime University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and FPT University). Therefore, VNU International School aims to replace the in-depth language knowledge such as functional grammar, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, etc… with specialized knowledge in either business or IT fields. Graduates of the Bachelor of English language program at VNU International School will be positioned in the intersection of the two circles in the diagram below:

The Bachelor of English language program at VNU International School is a high-quality training program characterized by its specific unit and international linkage nature and is accredited by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (following guidelines No. 1405/HD-VNU issued on May 23, 2016, regarding the quality stratification of undergraduate and master’s programs at Vietnam National University). Overall, the distinctive differences of the Bachelor of English language program at VNU International School compared to other language-focused programs are evident in the diagram below:

Currently, according to some surveys, few universities in Vietnam offer English language Training Programs combined with specific narrow majors. These programs include modules related to business, commerce, and technology alongside English language-related courses. However, in these universities, courses related to business and technology are taught in Vietnamese by Vietnamese lecturers. In contrast, all the courses of the Bachelor of English language (specialized in Business – Information Technology) at VNU International School are ttaught taught entirely in English (excluding mandatory courses such as Political Theory, National Defence Education, and Physical Education). This is achieved by extensively utilizing both in-house lecturers from the Department of Applied Linguistics and foreign guest lecturers, who jointly deliver language and specialized English courses.

2. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE STUDENTS

Graduates of the Bachelor of English language (specialized in Business – Information Technology program), focusing on one of the two narrow majors (business and IT), are oriented towards four typical career paths: Business Translation and Interpretation, Applied Linguistics, Foreign Affairs, and Teaching English for Specific Purposes in business and IT-related educational institutions.

Graduates possess a minimum English proficiency level of B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and have knowledge of either business or information technology. Thus, preferred working positions for graduate students can be the following:

Business-oriented roles:

+ Entrepreneurship: Planning, implementing, and managing independent business activities and systems.

+ Working in embassy, governmental and non-governmental organizations; taking on projects from domestic and international enterprises in the field of business.

+ Working as secretaries, foreign affair assistants in science and technology companies.

+ Taking on administrative roles in organizational strategies, human resource management, financial management and supply chain management.

+ Working in business and banking sectors.

+ Starting or working in technology startups.

IT-oriented roles:

+ Technology and IT assistants for embassies, governmental and non-governmental organizations, projects from domestic and international enterprises.

+ Assistants in managing information systems, operating software technologies for governmental and non-governmental organizations, projects from domestic and international enterprises.

+ Assistants in companies, corporations, enterprises in various fields including business data analysis, quantitative management, artificial intelligence, software technology, etc…

+ Working in business and banking sectors.

– Translation and Interpretation in specialized fields (business – IT) roles:
