On May 4, students from the Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management program at International School, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-IS), participated in an experiential learning program at Meliá Hanoi. Organized as part of the academic curriculum, the visit aimed to provide students with first-hand exposure to a professional working environment while strengthening the connection between classroom knowledge and the practical demands of the hospitality and service industry.
At the beginning of the program, students received a warm welcome from representatives of the hotel’s Human Resources Department, Training and Development team, and Food and Beverage Department. In professional atmosphere, the hotel representatives introduced Meliá Hotels International, providing an overview of the group’s history and development, as well as the establishment and growth of Meliá Hanoi in Vietnamese market.

Through the presentation, students gained valuable insights into the operational model of an international-standard hotel, including its organizational structure, management processes, service systems, and corporate culture. The representatives also shared practical insights into professional skills, workplace etiquette, and career development opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industry, helping students gain a clearer understanding of potential career pathways.
The program continued with a guided tour of various functional areas of the hotel, led by members of the hotel’s professional team. Students had the opportunity to observe the daily operations of key departments, learn how different roles and teams coordinate their activities, and explore the service standards maintained in an international hospitality environment. This hands-on experience brought many concepts previously encountered in lectures to life, making academic knowledge more tangible and engaging.
Beyond providing practical insights into the industry, the visit also helped students better understand the importance of professionalism, discipline, and effective communication in the high-end hospitality sector. It also offered them an opportunity to reflect on their own capabilities, identify areas for improvement, and develop more focused plans for their future studies and professional development.
The experiential learning program at Meliá Hanoi not only contributed to enhancing the quality of practice-oriented education but also strengthened connections between the university and the business community. The first-hand experiences and valuable insights shared by industry professionals left students with positive impressions and renewed motivation to pursue careers in Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management within an international and professional environment.
